Welcoming New Members of the Mayo Rape Crisis Centre Team

Mayo Rape Crisis Centre is delighted to welcome three new members to our team following the expansion of our services through additional funding. This investment has enabled us to establish two new Outreach Worker posts and a Part-time Adolescent Counsellor post, strengthening our ability to support survivors of sexual violence and to increase awareness, education, and access to services across County Mayo.
These new roles represent an important step in the continued development of our service. The Outreach Team will work closely with communities, schools, organisations, and partner agencies throughout the county to promote awareness, provide education, and improve access to support.
Our Part-time Adolescent Counsellor will enhance our capacity to provide specialist therapeutic support to young people who have experienced sexual violence.
We are delighted to welcome Katie Foy, Leona McGowan, and John McNamara to Mayo Rape Crisis Centre. Each brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to their role, and we look forward to the valuable contribution they will make to our service and to the people and communities we support.
Katie Foy- Outreach Worker:
“I am delighted to join Mayo Rape Crisis Centre as an Outreach Worker. With a background in community development and family support. I am passionate about ensuring that information, knowledge, and support reach people and communities across County Mayo. I look forward to connecting with individuals and organisations throughout the County, promoting awareness of our services, and helping to ensure that everyone who needs support can access it.”
Leona McGowan- Part-time Outreach Worker:
“I am delighted to be joining Mayo Rape Crisis Centre as an Outreach Worker. My background is in research, with a particular focus on trauma-informed, survivor-centred approaches to supporting people affected by sexual violence. Alongside my academic experience, I have worked in a range of settings, including lecturing, peer support and supervision, family support, and programmes working with perpetrators of domestic violence.”
“I am passionate about bridging the gap between communities and the support available, bringing education, training, and information directly to where people are. I believe outreach is about meeting people where they are, and I look forward to building strong connections with individuals, groups, and organisations across County Mayo in this new role.”
John McNamara- Part-time Adolescent Counsellor
“I am delighted to have joined Mayo Rape Crisis Centre as the Part-time Adolescent Counsellor. For the past six years, I have worked predominantly as an adult and adolescent therapist in Galway City. Having recently moved back to my home county of Mayo, I am delighted to have the opportunity to work within my local community.”
“I have already had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with a number of my colleagues at Mayo Rape Crisis Centre and look forward to getting to know the wider team over the coming months. I am excited to support young people across the county and contribute to the important work of the organisation.”
Wishing Katie, Leona and John every success in their new roles, and welcome to the team!
