Mayo Rape Crisis Centre offers free one-to-one counselling to anyone who has experienced any form of sexual violence recently or in the past.
We try to respond as soon as possible to those clients that contact the Centre in crisis, whether due to a recent assault or sudden recollection of a historical assault. The helpline staff will respond within 24 hours and a face-to-face session will be offered as quickly as possible.
Counselling provides a safe space to help you gain a clearer understanding of yourself and your situation. Deciding and making a commitment to counselling is a very powerful and life affirming choice.
Our counsellors will never force you to talk about anything you are not ready to, and all our counsellors are specialists in sexual violence counselling. Our counselling work is trauma-informed and person-centred, and our counsellors work with survivors at their own pace.
It takes courage for survivors to tell anyone about what has happened to them, and we know from our work that the therapeutic relationship can help survivors to understand what has happened to them and assist them in moving forward.
The support we offer is led by the individuals’ needs and takes place in a safe environment where survivors can talk in confidence about their experience with no judgement.
Our counsellors will check in regularly to make sure the service is meeting their needs.
