Awareness Raising & Training

Mayo Rape Crisis Centre takes every opportunity to raise awareness and challenge perceptions about the causes and impact of sexual violence through talks and public events. If you would like us to speak at your event, please contact us at [email protected].

Disclosure Training

What is Disclosure Training?

Our recently updated Disclosure Training, developed by Rape Crisis Network Ireland (RCNI) aims to help people know how to respond appropriately and with compassion when someone discloses an experience of sexual violence.

This training provides an overall insight into the culture and myths that exist in our society in relation to  sexual violence. Exploring these myths helps us understand how they are internalised by victims, which can make it very difficult to disclose what has happened to them.

The training also aims to increase awareness of how prevalent sexual violence is and the fact that everyone knows at least one person who has experienced sexual abuse, sexual assault and/or rape.

Along with educating participants on vicarious trauma and the importance of self care, it is also an introduction to the history and the work of Mayo Rape Crisis Centre.

Who can avail of Disclosure Training?

This workshop is suitable for all members of society and is especially relevant for other professionals, those working in community organisations, schools and healthcare settings.

Is there a cost?

There is no cost to groups or organisations, but donations are appreciated to contribute to costs incurred.
